Improve Your “Golf Posture”

01 Feb 2012, Posted by Play Golf Sarasota in Health

Several key physical attributes are important to have an efficient, repeatable and consistent golf swing. Golfers must be able to maintain consistent spine and joint angles from their set up position through impact.

Most golfers are aware that a lack of spinal mobility, or shoulder or hip tightness can have an adverse effect on their swing, but many don’t realize the importance of “core stability”. The “core musculature” refers to important stabilizing muscles around the thorax, lower back and abdomen, as well as the gluteal muscles (gluteus maximus and medius). Our injured golfers often demonstrate adequate flexibility, but perform poorly on basic golf fitness and strength tests because of core weakness.

To maintain proper alignment throughout the golf swing, the upper body must be able to rotate around a stable base. Once we train a golfer to actively engage their abdominal and gluteal muscles, they often report a dramatic improvement in their swing. A Golf Fitness Screen can quickly detect if you have any of these deficits, and with the right exercises you can take immediate steps to improve your game!

Dream 18 – The Meadows Country Club #10

30 Jan 2012, Posted by Play Golf Sarasota in Golf Courses

Play Golf Sarasota teamed up with ABC 7 to showcase the area’s best holes of golf. We call it our Dream 18.

The Meadows Country Club
Highlands Course #10

This Dream 18 hole is at the Meadows Country Club‘s Highlands Course.  It is Highlands Course’s #10, a Par 4 hole that is the number one handicap hole on the course.

This hole is a dogleg left with tall pines as your backdrop off the tee. The player must hit a draw off the tee to avoid the fairway bunkers on the right and then they will have a mid to long iron into small green guarded by bunkers.

Dream 18 – River Wilderness Golf and Country Club #14

River Wilderness

Play Golf Sarasota teamed up with ABC 7 to showcase the area’s best holes of golf.  We call it our Dream 18.

River Wilderness #14

Our first hole being showcased  is #14 at River Wilderness Golf and Country Club.  This par 4 is the #1 handicap hole on the course.

A good tee shot still leaves a long iron or utility wood into an elevated green which is fronted by water and a beach bunker. Coming up short on this hole is not an option. Your bail out area is to the right of the green to secure bogey.
