Handa Cup

September 12, 2015

Palm Aire Country Club proudly announces that State Senator Nancy Detert has agreed
to serve as Honorary Chair of the
ISPS Handa CupTournament

The LPGA Legends Event takes place at the club November 12-14. The Handa Cup is the tour’s premier tourney, featuring a Ryder Cup style format in which the twelve best players born in the USA compete against the twelve best players from the rest of the world.

“As a lifelong golfer, I am delighted to be a part of the Handa/Legends event in Sarasota, “ Detert commented.

Players accumulate points earned in regular tour tournaments over the course of the season. LPGA Hall of Famer Nancy Lopez will captain this year’s Team USA. Sally Little of South Africa, a fifteen–time winner on the LPGA Circuit, will lead Team World.

“Every golfer should be thrilled to see Nancy Lopez and all the other legends of golf,” Detert pro-claimed. “I remember when Nancy played at Bent Tree on the women’s tour,” she noted. “ I walked the course and watched in awe as she played. To meet her in person is very exciting. I look forward to seeing these legends of golf back in Sarasota, and hope everyone will show up to give them a warm welcome.”

Events kick off with a practice round open to the public on Thursday, November 12, followed by team competitions on Friday and Saturday. Friday will feature 4-ball matches in the morning and afternoon and Saturday’s play will highlight head-to-head matches.

Palm Aire Club President Ed Kornberger said the club was “absolutely thrilled to have Nancy Detert, a former Club Champion herself, take such an active role in bringing The Legends Tour and The ISPS Handa Cup to our area.”

Tickets available through Evie’s Tavern locations, Gateway Bank locations, Golfsmith, and over 70 area private and public golf clubs in the tri-county area.

Palm Aire Country Club is proud to announce the appointment of Joe Rassett as its new General Manager. Rassett joined Palm Aire on September 1.

He brings more than 15 years of experience to the new position, having served the last 41/2 years at The Waterlefe® Golf and River Club, where he served as General Manager.

Prior to that he served as Director of Golf at IMG Academies for two years, and three years as Director of Golf at Longboat Key Club.

He also served as Head Golf Professional or Director of Golf at other Florida and New Jersey private and semi-private clubs.

“All of my past experiences have prepared me for this great opportunity….I look forward to serving the membership at Palm Aire Country Club and managing its operations on behalf of the Board of Directors and its committees.”

A former four-time Collegiate All-American, Rassett served as a US Team Member for the 1981 Walker Cup. He also won Low Amateur at The US Open that year.

Subsequently he spent the next 13 years on the Professional Tour—playing on The PGA, European, Ben Hogan and Nike Tours. He won The Florida Open in 1991.

Married to wife Sue, Rassett has two grown children, a daughter Lauren and son JD. He succeeds Joseph Sumner, who passed away earlier this year from complications related to his long bout with cancer.

Club President Ed Kornberger said, “We are delighted to have a person of Joe’s stature whose track record in club management is so enviable. There is no doubt we have the right person at the right time for our club.”

Waterlefe Sees Increase in Quality Leads

Waterlefe

A great testimonial from our partnering club, Waterlefe Golf & River Club. We love to hear that we are helping area courses generate leads and recognition within our community!

“The game of golf and the golf industry has faced many challenges over the past fifteen years, and it is our main goal to spend our advertising budget where we will receive the highest return. We have tested and tried many vehicles and kept a close watch on those that bring us the highest conversion rates.

We are happy to report that since we have partnered with Play Golf Sarasota, we have seen an increase in quality leads and qualified prospective members at Waterlefe Golf and River Club. Not only do we get leads through print, their online presence helps drive traffic to our website, where we can capture more leads and in turn, gain more successful conversions.

In 2015, we stepped up to include Waterlefe on the front cover that included expanded coverage as a Showcase Property.  This allowed us to include the River Club amenities and the boating aspect of our community.  The verbal response from people recognizing the cover has been over the top and with Play Golf Sarasota’s annual distribution model, we hear it month after month.

If you’re thinking of partnering with Play Golf Sarasota, it truly is advertising dollars well spent and we look forward to partnering with Play Golf Sarasota in the years to come.”
