Palm Aire Country Club is proud to announce the appointment of Joe Rassett as its new General Manager. Rassett joined Palm Aire on September 1.

He brings more than 15 years of experience to the new position, having served the last 41/2 years at The Waterlefe® Golf and River Club, where he served as General Manager.

Prior to that he served as Director of Golf at IMG Academies for two years, and three years as Director of Golf at Longboat Key Club.

He also served as Head Golf Professional or Director of Golf at other Florida and New Jersey private and semi-private clubs.

“All of my past experiences have prepared me for this great opportunity….I look forward to serving the membership at Palm Aire Country Club and managing its operations on behalf of the Board of Directors and its committees.”

A former four-time Collegiate All-American, Rassett served as a US Team Member for the 1981 Walker Cup. He also won Low Amateur at The US Open that year.

Subsequently he spent the next 13 years on the Professional Tour—playing on The PGA, European, Ben Hogan and Nike Tours. He won The Florida Open in 1991.

Married to wife Sue, Rassett has two grown children, a daughter Lauren and son JD. He succeeds Joseph Sumner, who passed away earlier this year from complications related to his long bout with cancer.

Club President Ed Kornberger said, “We are delighted to have a person of Joe’s stature whose track record in club management is so enviable. There is no doubt we have the right person at the right time for our club.”

Search Committee Chairman John Devoldre noted that more than 70 qualified applicants from all over Florida and the United States applied for the position.

“We held an exhaustive review process and interviewed all the top candidates, “ DeVoldre said. “And we are absolutely delighted that Joe is our man.”
